Which airport for skiing in Andorra?

Andorra has no airport with regular flights from the rest of Europe, so every ski trip starts with a choice: Barcelona, Girona, Reus, the AVE to Lleida or Toulouse in France. Here is how they compare for getting to the slopes with skis.

Side by side

The options, from the slopes’ point of view

Drive times are without traffic to the ski bases, from Encamp and La Massana (the closest) to Pas de la Casa (the furthest). On snowy days or on a busy Saturday at the border, add 30 to 45 minutes.

BCN · 205-228 km

Barcelona-El Prat

The most flights, all year, from almost every European city. 2 h 55 - 3 h 25 to the bases. More on El Prat.

GRO · 215-238 km

Girona-Costa Brava

Winter flights from the UK and Ireland, one small terminal. 3 h 05 - 3 h 35 to the bases. Girona to the slopes.

REU · 200-223 km

Reus

Seasonal flights, quick exit with ski bags. 2 h 55 - 3 h 25 to the bases. Reus to the slopes.

AVE · 155-178 km

And Toulouse?

Toulouse-Blagnac is close to Pas de la Casa, but we do not drive from France

Toulouse is the nearest big airport to the French side of Andorra, roughly 170 km from Pas de la Casa by road through the Ariège valley. If you land there you will need a French operator, a hire car or a coach: we do not drive between France and Andorra.

For the rest of the country the picture changes: from Toulouse to Arinsal, Ordino or Canillo you first have to cross the Envalira pass, the highest road pass in the Pyrenees. From Barcelona the road enters Andorra from the south, through La Seu d’Urgell, and reaches every valley without crossing Envalira.

How to choose

Four questions that decide it

  • Where is your base? For Pal Arinsal, Ordino Arcalís, Encamp or Canillo, Barcelona is the most direct; for Pas de la Casa, the difference with Toulouse is smaller.
  • What does the flight cost with ski bags? Sports equipment fees change the cheapest airport more than the fare itself.
  • What time do you land? A morning landing in Barcelona gets you to the hotel in the afternoon, in time to collect hire skis and the lift pass.
  • How many are you? For a family or a group, splitting one vehicle door to door often comes close to the cost of coach tickets plus the local connection.

What vehicle do I need?

Count everyone and every bag. Ski bags, snowboards and big suitcases are one item each; two cabin bags or two boot bags count as one. The boot fills up as you add them, and the price comes live from our booking engine.

Frequently asked questions

Does Andorra have an airport?

Andorra has no airport with regular flights from the rest of Europe. The Andorra-La Seu d’Urgell airport, in Spain, has very few commercial flights, so almost every skier flies to Barcelona, Girona, Reus or Toulouse.

Which airport is closest to Grandvalira?

Toulouse is the closest to Pas de la Casa. For the Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp sectors, Barcelona-El Prat is about three hours away and does not require crossing the Envalira pass.

Can you pick us up at Toulouse Airport?

No. On this site we drive between Catalonia and Andorra only: from Barcelona, Girona, Reus or Lleida to the ski bases, and back.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle, with tolls included. Whether two or seven of you travel, the price of the chosen category is the same. Each vehicle carries up to 8 passengers; for bigger groups the search box offers several vehicles leaving at the same time.

Can I cancel?

Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before pick-up, with a full refund. Within 24 hours, message or call us.

Ready for the snow?

Fixed price per vehicle, tolls included. 60 minutes of free waiting at the airport and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
