Each stretch of the 2026-27 season has the colour of a piste marker: how hard it is to find a vehicle on those days. Black weeks book up first.

  • Quiet: book a week ahead
  • Normal: book two weeks ahead
  • Busy: book a month ahead
  • Peak: book as soon as you have your flights

Season dates from the resorts. Bank holidays from the official calendars; UK and French school holidays vary by area, so check yours.

Weather

Cold mornings and winter roads

January is usually the coldest month at altitude. Roads are kept clear, but snowfalls can slow the drive: check roads and snow today before you travel. Your driver follows the instructions of the authorities and carries winter equipment.

Booking

Midweek trips are easiest

In January a Sunday-to-Friday or midweek stay avoids the weekend traffic at the border. Book your transfer with your flights; the price is fixed per vehicle and depends on the date and time, shown before you pay. For the whole season, see the season calendar.
