Andorra is one of the easiest places in Europe to learn: every resort has ski schools and beginner areas, and the slopes are three hours from Barcelona. Here is how to plan a first ski week without surprises.

Where to stay

A base with a beginners’ area close by

For a first week, the most useful thing is not having to carry skis far. El Tarter and Grau Roig in Grandvalira have easy slopes near the hotels; Canillo has a gondola up to a beginners’ area; Pal, above La Massana, has gentle wooded runs. See where to stay for skiing and which resort.

Pas de la Casa and Arinsal also have beginner zones, but they are livelier towns, better suited to groups of friends.

Before you go

Book lessons, hire and pass together

  • Book ski school lessons before you travel: group lessons fill up in the school holiday weeks.
  • Hire skis, boots and a helmet near your base, and collect them the evening you arrive; see ski hire.
  • A beginner usually does not need the full area pass on the first days: check the options on the resort website and in lift passes.
  • Plan the first morning with the first-day guide: lockers, lift pass collection and meeting point of the school.

The transfer

Arrive the day before your first lesson

If you land in the morning or early afternoon, you reach the base in time to collect your hire gear the same evening and start the lesson rested. Your driver tracks the flight and you have 60 minutes of free waiting from landing. Without your own skis, a suitcase each is usually enough, so a saloon or a minivan does the job: the search box shows only vehicles where everything fits.

Is Andorra good for beginner skiers?

Yes. All three ski areas have ski schools and beginner areas, and many hotels are close to easy slopes.

Do you sell ski lessons?

No. We only do the transfer. Lessons are sold by the ski schools of each resort.

Can you stop at a hire shop on the way?

A short stop can be arranged; tell us when you book.

Is the price per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle, with tolls included. Each vehicle carries up to 8 passengers; for bigger groups the search box offers several vehicles leaving at the same time.

Do ski bags and child seats cost extra?

Yes, both are priced extras that you add in the booking, and you see the full price before paying.
